ok , our neighbors have this tank that they are throwing away because on the side panel it has a crack halfway up the tank. we were thinking about taking it except other thank a small leak we would have no idea how to fix an entire panel. woud we have to replace the entire glass? how would u go about fixing it? is it worth it to try?

its a 30g tall or something were not sure.

30 galllon, maybe not worth it

its not so much becuase its a small tank that make it not worth its a matter of is the effort and the repaie going to cost most than the tank.

i could look into how much a glass panel would cost from your local glass store and go from there should not be much

well has anyone actually dont this? is it easy to change the panel?

It is not real easy. It does require using a razor blade to cut as much of the silicone from around the plastic trim as you can and removing them. And then you would have to remove all the silicone from inside the tank as if you were going to reseal it. And then take your razor and cut between the corner of the bad panel all the way around and remove the bad panel. Then clean everything really well to remove any old silicone. And run a small bead on the surfaces were the new panel will set. Then set the panel on the tank were it lines up all the way around and tape it down over the edges. I would then wait over night and glue the trims back on and reseal the inside over every seam and let it cure out for a few days and water check it for leaks.

ok then new idea, get it use it for repiltes :D the end lol

but seriously i think ill pass on it, the frustrating part is that this tank they had set it outside on there lawn a few weeks ago and when we asked if they were tossing it they said no, and i guess they broke it or put it in storage and it brok and now its outhere again only this time we cant get it :(

use it for reptiles. or take it out and shoot it. that would be fun, and what i would do :D

for a 30 its not really worth the work... i personaly wouldnt bother with anything below a 75.. and even then... but im in socal and its really easy to come by big tanks for cheap..

a 30 would be a good tank to learn on if you can get a hookup on cheap glass... around here the glass would cost (im making this number up) $25... and new 30gallon tank would cost like $45 (also made that number up)...
i make $XX.xx an hour... so the 3 hours of work it would take to redo the tank+dry time+glass+risk of screwing it up... its just not worth it..

I had that problem with a 15 gal tank. two feet by 1 feet(or foot?) panel was cracked. You can do the job if you have lots of patience and the right tools!!
Take a razor blade - the slim little rectangle thing - and slide it between the side & front panel. Do it on the opposite side too. Then bend the glass a little(the glue is elastic, not the glass:ROFL:) and cut it with the blade.
Take off the panel and clean the glue well as silicone won't adhere to old silicone. Measure the panel and go buy another one!!!
BE CAREFUL WHEN HANDLING GLASS
