Ok heres the thing i went to this river kinda a river it had some really nice rocks i got one really nice one then i find a rock i am not sure if it is limestone but i think it is i will pour vinegar on it to check but yer i know it highers ph but is it really that bad cause this piece of limestone is really really cool.

Limestone isn't that bad if you use it for the right setup. African rift lake fish, and any other fish that prefers a higher PH and harder water will benefit from the addition of limestone rocks.

So if i boil it my oscar will like it???.

Nope - boiling it wont do anything to it except make it warm :grinno:

The problem is that the limestone actually reacts with any acid in the water and dissolves. That releases calcium into the water, which increases the hardness and pH. Now if you have African cichlids that like hard alkaline water, this is a good thing. But you have an Oscar that likes soft slightly acidic water.. so it's a BAD thing.

Find a different rock, that one will give you grief.

Thanks guys at least i have this other rock which is really cool but it is not limestone i thought it was a good find but i am still going to test to see if it is limestone better safe then sorry.

Some quite amusing answers there.

Limestone is the state rock of Western Australia and is everywhere. I have heaps of it in every single one of my tanks, and I have 6 Oscars altogether. It does not raise hardness or ph to any dangerous degree in any of my tanks and in fact acts as a great buffer. It's use is widespread in this part of the world and I'm sure the OP could quite easily verify this.

Maybe it's a different type of limestone?

Limestone is a poor choice for Amazon creatures.
