I bet you could keep a female in there..I think I read somewhere that they get around 13"??? Hmm and I believe the males get around the 24" mark...I think they need at least a 250 gallon. That's just what I heard..

I'm no expert though

never owned one,but read that the reason they need huge tanks are that they are open water swimmers let alone get huge!! besides arent they slow growers to.I bet you could get a few years out of it.There are umbee owners on this site that would know more.

He could live comfortably in a 180 for around 3-4 years. After that you'd need to a larger tank, around 265-300 gallons.

My friend has a awesome pair in a 265g and they do just fine in there. The male is about 16in and female is about 8in. Plenty of room in there.

i have a spare 6x2x2 that i just wanted to house a mean bastard fish, a large one but i know umbees are open swimmers and i would put any 2 foot fish in a 2 foot wide tank, but i mean do they all get to 2 foot? my main tank has my fire eel, rays and oscars in there i would never put an umbee in there.

A 180 should be fine for a male Umbee, I really doubt it will grow past 20inches in a fish tank even if is in a 360.
