Hi guys my new 350g has been running for a month now and when I started it I put enough sand out of my other tanks to cover the bottom and also put a load of bb in the form of media and put a mature 500l rated sponge filter and also filled it up.with a wc from my other tanks.
I left it for a.few weeks and then took a wc out of 15% and filled up from my other tanks and then put 3 6" tinfoils in and over the last couple of weeks I've added more fish and monitored the parameters and this week its been stable at 0 ammonia and nitrate at around 60 and everything else is fine.
Now I'm planning on two wc this week of around 30% a few days after eachother and then I'm going to put my RTG Arowana in with the others who seem to be doing fine,am I doing it right as I've not done one for a few years but it seems good to me.

It's filtered by the 500l sponge filter and a 5' x 18" x 16" sump .
Any more info needed just ask.

Steve

Eh?

Bttt

Il do the first wc tonight and monitor what happens then.

Anybody else,I was worried about undoing the good work I've done.with the bb by doing a wc too soon?

Cheers buddy.

At this point, as long as you do water only (no gravel vac, no filter cleaning) and make sure the water going in is more or less the same temp as your current water you should have zero issues disturbing your BB. I do 30% water changes twice a day every day. When I do perform maintainence on filter media and vacuum the tank, I go light on feedings and skip water changes for the day. I have gone as long as two weeks on vacation without a water change and all params were great when I returned. Remember that your BB live on the surfaces of your filter media and every surface of your tank not in your water.

By the way I gravel vac very few and far between that way my BB always have something to munch on. The last time I vac'd was in early october but I don't suggest that unless you do water changes every day.
