so i think my bass maybe blind ?..... he has lost all of his black bars and is just a like VERY pale green and when i drop food in he only eats it once it hits him in the face he never "attacks" it like he did before id walk up to the tank and if he was hungry he'd be swimming at the top waiting for it to be dropped in ... could he be blind ? if so what would cause him to go blind outta the blue like that ? he in a tank by himself, temp at 85-86 with a powerhead sucking air into the tank and a HOB filter so it getting surface aggitation, he only about 3-3.5" anyone have any ideas ?

Do you say blind literally?

Even for fishes that use eyes for hunting, in a tank it wouldnt be so bad, since he can feel everything around it by its lateral line..

Wait for the others comments, but it sound very strange..

Hopefully he's not but a a safeguard you may watch to remove anything he could injure himself on.

yea there isnt anything in the tank for him to get hurt on right now, but i think it is very strange as well... i dont know what going on with him, worst of it is that he doesnt eat like he should cause it like he cant see it, and wont grow as fast as he should to be added in my tank with others

Sounds like he's sick too me even if a bass was totally blind he would still eat with out a problem.

well he will eat but only when the food hits him or touchs him, i dont know what would be wrong with him if he is sick tho... he doesnt "search" for food in the tank at all,

This is just what I thinks and I'm.not an expert, but maybe he was swimming in the bubbles from the pwerhead to Lo.g and dryed out his eye, my bass loves to swim in the current from my powerhead, so idk try adding aquarium salt, and see if it helps. Good luck.

I have a bass with an eye injury. I think my happened when I used mela-fix .. any how he had cloudy eye and i did some water changes. if you can take a look at his eyes and look for any odd color or whiteness.

just took a peek at his eyes and they look perfectly fine from what i can see, he hasnt been subjected to any meds or anything ever...

Seeing issue come and go. Not sure if its the eyes or balance issue. A lot of times they would miss the pellet like they have double vision or something. Most likely caused by water quality...too much ammonia or nitrate.
