I have 2 rope fish I've had for about 4 years now that I care about very much, about 7 mouths ago I got a very young dinosaur birchir at the pet store. He was about 4 inches long when I first him and planned to only keep him in the tank with the rope fish while he was tiny and move him to a 50 gallon however that tank was recently taken by a rescued ball python I now have and since I'm about to move I can't get a larger tank atm. I'm worried about the birchir being with the rope fish now. They've gotten along wonderfully as long as they've been together I've even seen them laying in a big pile together calmly eating the same pile of blood worms together, but birchir is getting bigger and is about 6 to 7 inches now and has always been a voracious eater. He's even eaten several small fish I used to have with them as well as some snails. He's never acted aggressive towards the rope fish but is it possible he might realize he's big now and decide to take a swipe at them? The rope fish are about 12-14 inches long.

Welcome aboard
If it is a Senegal Bichir I personally wouldn't worry. I've had them for yrs and the only time the get nippy is during breeding. Post a pic when possible so I can ID the Polypterus.
Here is a pic of my Senegal.20170620_113902.jpg

Pellets and peices of Tilapia is also good for the Rope fish and
Senegal.
They do get pellets every third or so feeding though thr rope fish don't seem as enthusiastic about them as blood worms or nightcrawlers so i try to feed those more often.
