I have a 125 with a flordia gar,ornate,delheizi,ansorgii and polleni.
There hasnt been any agression before, mind you all the polys were still growing.
Well now the Ornate has become a real ass lol
I looked over at my tank and caught the Ornate having the Delheizi by the tail for a good 15 seconds till i scared him to let go.
He never goes after the Ansorgii thought.
Is there a way to reduce this agression by the Ornate or is my Delheizi just in big trouble and should he be removed?
Theres lots of tubes,a big boat,plants...
I just actually put a really huge tube in the back, hoping he might just use it...
THe Ornate is is roughly 8 inches and the Del is roughly 6.5 inches..
Any ideas ....
I really dont want to lose any of them.

im not sure if that would exactly solve the problem, overstocking the tank usually doesn't solve probelms, I know people claim that adding bichirs levels out aggression. I can't contest this at all as i've never tried, but I dont think adding more bichirs than your tank can handle does any fish good. What I would suggest is to first move around the ornaments/plants in your tank to possibly help any territorial issues your ornate might have. Not sure if it will solve your problem, but its worked for me with aggression issues in adding new fish before, so its worth a shot in my opinion.

Thanks to you both
I have tried moving everything around and i actually moved last weekend and completly did the tank again and even added a new substrate. Im woundering if this is what actually caused the agression. I think my tank can handle more bichirs too but now that mine are over 5 inches do i have to now make sure the new ones i buy are that size?

yeah, if you add more bichirs you want to try to get them around the same size as the others. If you can't find any the right size you could always buy a smaller one and keep it in a seperate growout until its big enough to go in the 125.

I've never kept an ornate myself, but from what I've heard they tend to be the bullies of the bichir family. Still, its possible that they are just re-establishing territories & dominance since their world got turned upside down, so to speak. I'd give it a couple more days before getting too worried, things might settle down again. Good luck

I tried adding to my sens and it just got worse and bloodier. Just my experience. Three 5" sens in a 75G tank and they still couldn't make it work- how sad lol. Even with all the hiding spots.

So I traded in the two bullies and got a small Delhezi, and now everyone is happy lol.

If you do get more just make sure they are the same size. I am growing some out before I put them in with the big guy.

I bought a ornate my self which was around 11in and introduced him in my 240gal tank with a 10in endlii and a 8in senagal and other fishes, and one day I saw the ornate having my endliis tail in his mouth. The ornate tried taking a few more nips, eventully he stop after 2 to 3 days,so just like what wolfsburgfanatic said just give it a few days and see if the ornate stops picking on your del. If it doesnt stop then chances are your going to need another tank or a seperator.

ornates are bad news! mine @ 14" bullies my 11" palmas yet he doesnt bother my sen or del, both @ 5". i have moved decor, created new hiding places but the thing i have noticed working lately is everytime i notice it going on the hunt for my palmas, i tap the glass. more like bang actually. the ornate retreats to its lair and actually i've noticed less instances of aggression. i'm hoping that im training my ornate to stop bullying my palmas. only time will tell...

Well so far, everything is still alive lol so i guess thats good news. I havent seen the Ornate go at him again since so mabey it was the whole new territorial thing.....hopefully....lol
