Hi, I have a discus that has a lot of black marks on its face and body. My local fish store told me it was just stress induced but I'm beginning to think otherwise. Anybody know? Thanks

Something eating his slime coat? That would be my guess. Maybe one of the other fish is smoking and hes the ash tray

Thats called peppering, just a natural phenomenon for discus when they are kept in tanks with dark back grounds. (From what I have been told) Its not life threatening but really affects the appearence of the discus. LFS advice...sigh...

Anyway to get rid of it? I don't have a black plastic sheet on the back of my tank it's just my wall behind is painted dark blue.

get a light colored background and substrate and it should clear up. any discus with pigeon bloog genes will do this.

it is peppering backround has nothing to do with it as lady gaga says it was just born this way dont worry about it keep your temps up to 82 to 84 and do lots of water changes

I think I'm gonna go with the wallpaper thing, seems like a lot of people are saying to do that and it can't hurt
