HI!

I have had my 'dragon fish' for about 6 months. He is about a foot long, and seems rather healthy as far as eating and normal habits.

The thing concerning me is that he has a lot of big black spots.. they almost look like mold? i have asked around, researched, and still haven't found out. He has been this way for about 3 months? i'll upload a pic soon...

The pic will help a lot but if I'm right, there's nothing wrong with your violet goby.
I noticed something similar on mine as it grew. Tiny black dots starting at the end of the tail, and spreading up to the head. Judging from pictures, I thought that these would either thicken or become more numerous until the fish's back was all black.
If the black doesn't look like part of the skin pigment, but the blotches protrude or look fuzzy, then it could definitely be a problem.
What are the tank size, tankmates, SG...?

It looks more like they are blotches of mold under his skin..? my cam wasn't cooperating, sorry..

tank mate is a pleco, 40 gal and everything else i keep up with. does that look like it?

Judging from those pics, I don't see anything out of the ordinary. They are kinda fuzzy pics but that's what my violet goby looked like when its colors were changing.
Perhaps if you could get some more detailed pictures, somebody could tell you.
The tank is brackish, right?
If the fish is a foot long already, I'd recommend upgrading as soon as possible.
