My Electric Blue Acara has been "shivering" recently and she also occasionally flashes off of hard things in her tank. She's just tonight started to scratch her head off of the edge if a pleco cave and into the gravel. She looks fine, is behaving fine (personable and scraps with her sailfin molly friend all the time), and she's eating fine. The shivering has been occurring for a few weeks with the other symptoms being more recent. Any cause for concern or ideas why she's doing this?

Have you introduced new fish?

Fish flash off objects when something is irritating them. It could be water quality, or it could be something like ich or gill flukes. Your first line of defense is a good water change/cleaning to see if it calms down.

No new fish when she started doing this. I just did a WC the other night but I'll do another one in a few days.

What are the tank mates...sometimes do this as a display of dominance

Stock is:
1 Electric Blue Acara (4.25")
1 Sailfin Molly (3.75")
1 Blue Gourami (4")
1 Pangasius larnaudii (3.5") (growout)
1 Blueye Ancistrus (4")
1 Asian Bumblebee Catfish (4.5")

She almost nonstop fights with the sailfin Molly (which doesn't do much damage because of the Molly's small mouth) and she'll try to instegate fights with the gourami who doesn't fight back. Any time she tries to mess with the bb cat she never wins, that cat sure can fight for having no teeth!

They should be out of the whole EB frailty period. Something must have changed in your water ryan's right it sounds like the beginnings of ich. Do you have plants?- Also what's your temperature at? Usually adding salt (remove your plants first)and raising the temps will do it.

Did you use water conditioner when you did the WC, if you put to much in it can make them flash for a few days

No love plants, just plastic. I keep the temp at 76f.
