I got this fish a week and a half ago and the month didnt look nothing like this, I frist noticed it just yesterday and i thought that it looked like there was something stuck in her mouth. I've been wondering about it and thought I'd see if some one could tell me if she is are not. Now if she is should I move her to another tank with the fry ?
Should I pull the fry from her month and how should I go about that?
are is it best to just leave her alone with them?

Thanks before hand for all replies.

Yeah she is holding, if she is not getting beat up by anyone it is best to leave her be, then after about 24 days you can move her to a seperate tank so she can release the fry. When she releases them you can take her out. You don't even need to remove her if you don't want the fry.

The other fish is a placidochromis milomo.

definately holding female. if you want to keep all the babies and have an extra tank, you should net her and put her in there by herself until she spits them, which judging by the pic is soon..

Definitely holding, looks like the eggs may have hatched already. Its a little hard to tell from a pic but they get (I know this sounds weird) a certain expression on their face when its almost time to spit.

Very cool. I'll have new addtions to the tank sooner then I thought. I have a extra 20g tank. I'll move her to tomorrow, Now the only thing is it's still got few plants in it. I had Apistogrmma eunotus in it but I've moved them yesterday. Now there's just a lone female in it. I'll move her and then place the female in there with her fry.
How long should I leave the female in with the young before removing her back to the main tank?
Is it ok to feed the fry live brine shrimp or should i get somethingelse for them or what should I feed the fry?

I like to remove the feamale the first time she releases the fry. She will not hurt them at all, but as long as she is in the tank they will still want to go in her mouth when they feel threatend. As they fry get bigger this is a problem, cuase they may end up getting mangled by the female due to their size and not fitting in her mouth properly.

Also, she will not eat very good and with the fry preasent as she will be constanly worrying about them. That is why I like to remove her after they are realeased so I can get some weight back on her.

You can feed baby brine shrimp if you want, but it is not really nessary. You can just crush up flake food to a very fine consistancy and they will do fine on that. I have raised countless amounts of malawi cichlids on flake food.

You are so right about the expression.. yes that is exactly the expression of a holding female..

Definetly looks like she is holding. A sure way to tell is to watch her when you feed the fish in your tank, if she doesn't eat she is holding. I usually catch mine and let her spit them out when she wants in a seperate tank, but my stepdad uses a q-tip (with the end cut off ) to take out the fry so that he can put her back in her home tank. My yellow lab females go thru this process about every 6-8 weeks.

She is definitely holding do you have a Male in the tank with her if not those eggs may not be fertilized
