i have a 100gal tank with 8 fry Indo datnoid the size of a nickel and i have a Fluval FX5 as a filter and i was wondering if it may be to strong for the little guys any feed back would be nice it would suck if some of them went missing do to the power of the filter

I think it should be fine. I really don't think that the Fx5 are all that powerful. I have one on a 120g and feel like I need another one, lol. Of course, the intake strainer might be a bit big, so I would put something like a media bag over it.

Pick up a critter keeper and put the fry in it, then put the critter keeper in the aquarium. They're cheap at ~$5 each.

I use this method for breeding my own feeders. When the fry are tiny little wigglers I put them in the critter keeper inside the main tank until they're big enough not to get sucked up by the filters. Works like a charm.

Sounds about right to me as a fry filter.

The fx5 loaded with media only puts out around 500 something gallons per hour.

So you have a 5x turn over rate. Which IMO is at the very bottom of the scale.

I have a 55g that has a 30x turn over rate. And it see's 100 feeder size guppies a week. And i never find any in the canisters.

put a sponge/screen/pantyhoes over the intake for the filter and be done with it

a fx5 will suck those babies up! they dont have a chance against the suction of a fx5. its too strong in my opinion. i had to put a prefilter sponge on a hob marineland 150. I hope this helps. i have twelve fry myself. and owned a fx5.
