hello every one just a quick one my tank is 96 x 30 x 24 I currently have it running on one fluval fx5 is that enough or should I be looking to buy another one, not sure but my mate seems to think so. I keep large cichlids but my tank always looks clean. what do you guys think?

if it looks clean visually and you are happy with it, and your ammonia and nitrites are zero, you dont need to buy another one. you may want another powerhead for water circulation, but you don't need to get another filter. it won't change your water params.

Exactly. Enough filtration is defined as enough bio to keep ammonia and nitrite at 0 and enough mechanical to keep the water clear. You cannot get any better than that.

What other flow do you have? I can't imagine a 300 gallon having enough flow with just an FX5. I think that is what you would need to worry about. I always use air, it will save your tank one day. In that tank I would have at least one (probably two) strong pumps, like the new Hyor Koralia Evolutions and a very strong air pump.

Another FX5 would be ideal... I would add like three Hydor V sponge filters... those things are great bio filters and will add some mech filtration as well.

:iagree: If the water is clear and not cloudy and you water params are where they should be, then you don't need another FX5.

Yeah, pretty much what everyone else has said. Test your water and make sure ammonia and nitrite are both at 0. If they are and you are happy with the water clarity then there isn't much need for more filtration. I do however recommend looking into powerheads for more circulation and will keep the water oxygenated. Just my 2 cents

thanks for all the help dudes haven't had this tank for long, the place I got it from insisted that one fx5 would be more than enough, since i set it up the water has been crystal clear with no ammonia or nitrates, but the flow has never looked enough to me plus my dovii, jags, and tilipias have dropped in activity which in truth was the main reason for the question in the first place, after all there used to 90 gallon running on three fluval 405's(wish i didn't sell them with my old tank now), im going to get two hyor koralia evo's tomorrow if the store sells them if not i will have to go for a different brand, but definitely getting 2 tomorrow no matter what, because i cant bear the though of one of my fish dying there all older then my kids lol, thanks again
