ok so long story short, earlier my spotted gar spooked real bad as i was feeding him and my peacock bass and hit the glass really hard. he had crazy whole body spasms and couldnt swim upright and just sank to the bottum. it looked horrible as he twitched and jerked unable to upriggt himself. i carefully held him upright and kind of cradled him in my hands for 3-4 mins making sure i saw him gulp air and then he more or less swam or glided to the bottum and sat there for about 30mins give or take. its been 2 hours now and he is swimming and even ate another piece of shrimp but did i get lucky and he was he just stunned? do u think he will be ok?? any input is apreciated.

Based on the above points, I think he's going to be OK.

If this "standoff" between the PBass and the Gar is a regular thing, you might want to re-think the stock in this 125G.

What are the sizes of the PBass and the Gar?

Good luck,

well it wasnt really a stand off, i opened the lid to do round two of feeding after the first round settled in their stomachs, and they all 4 were up in one corner and i think it was more of him spooking then anything. he doesnt mind me being around him it just has to be slow, and clearly infron of him so he knows what im doin. i even hand feed him. the 3 orinos are roughly 8-8 1/2-9" beteen all 3 and the gar is almost 11" and really plump. they all four get along great with no hazing or fighting even during feeding.

you got lucky this time. gar should be ok from this incident, but it definitely exemplifies why we advise against the pbass gar combo. i would separate those fish as you likely won't get lucky again from a repeated injury--

^this!!!! OMG the above post. And people wonder why we harp on no pbass, cichla, pleco, aro etc. Just because it works for alittle while doesnt mean its going to continue to.

I can understand the aro, last time I checked cichla and pbass were one and the same, but for the life of me I have no idea why you couldn't keep a gar with a pleco...of all the tanks I've seen people house gar in, id say 75% also house pbass. Just my opinion.

Cichla (Peacock Bass)-- They easily out-compete the gar for food, can spook the gar which results in injuries and/or death, and sometimes bully the heck out of the gar.

Plecos-- They might suck on the slime coat of the gar which will allow the gar to contract diseases that will surely lead to its death.

with my tank, all are always fed till they are full n happy..i make sure of this plus the gar has grown up with the pbass and theres no bullying or competing i had more tank mates and was over stocked and got my stock list thinned down to just the four of them now and not only are happier but also more active. i know there are ALWAYS exceptions to every rule, but honestly when he spooks if he ever does, its becuase i spooked him moving around lids or such messing with the tank. the bass have never been mean or abusove to him...bit i do apreciate heads up and information even when its constructive criticism, im not new in this stuff, but im not an expert either. and yes i got lucky, but charlie seems ok and is very active and happy like it never happened..

Of course there are always exceptions to pretty much every rule; you seem to have gotten lucky for the most part with your gar/peacock bass combination so props to you.
