Decided to try an inkbird itc-308 managed to calibrate and set it up .I have set my desired temp to 27.5c I have connectem my 300w fluval heater to it have removed the guard. Now when the water temp drops to about 27.2c I hear the inkbird click and the heating led on the inkbird lights up but the heater display is off I unplugged the fluval heater and plugged it back in and the little display lights up when desired temp is reached the inkbird switches off the heater .It seems that when the inkbird then needs to switch on the heater the heater is not coming on anyone else have this issue I want to buy 2 more but want to see how good they work first.

I am goiny to try another heater it is only a 50w heater but just to use as a test bed I think the heater is playing up more than it being inkbird.

So, when it tries to switch on the heater it sounds like the heaters not getting any power until it's unplugged and then plugged back in? I've heard bad things about the Fluval E-series heaters doing something like that though.

I'd actually plug a lamp into the inkbird if I had one convenient to test, very obvious on/off indicator. :)

The inkbird seems to be ok The fluval heater appears to be working. As the room got dark I could see the heating element glowing in the fluval heater but the display was off this has only started since I connected it to the inkbird though. Weird

just an update deided ditch the fluval e300w I found a fluval m300w in a box in my loft. 3 years ago I bought a fluval 240 lt tank which came with the filter and heater did'nt use the heater as the tank was for my rainbow snake heads .Anyway fitted the M300 w to the inkbird and heats quicker than the E300w just fitted the after market guard to it as they dont have and is performing much better that the E model. After christmas I think will get 2 more inkbirds incase we have another hot summer in 2019 as last summer my tanks were over heating and had to manualy switch the heaters off and on again as the temprature went up and down.

So wait, the inkbird is like a temperature controller like what are used for titanium heaters without built in thermostats? Why are you using it with heaters that have built in thermostats?

Because there have been instanes where aquarium heaters fail overheat the aquarium and kill the fish with the inkbird if the heater fails either way you will know as you can set the alarm to warn you that the tank is getting too hot or too cool also once you set your disired temp the inkbird will turn off the heater and when the aquarium cools to a certain temp it switches the heater back on .It gives you more flexibility. Once it did a water change and forgot to put the heater back on it was'nt until the next day I realised luckly it was summer so the temp didnt drop too low with the inkbird the alarm will go off to warn you of that.

yes once you know how they work it is not that complex but yes they can go wrong as well they are not that expensive so would just buy another I have another 2 on order.
