Is my JAG not happy?

My Jag never shows color unless i introduce something new to tank... once his colors was amazing but now seems as if he never shows his color... any ideas?

mb every thing in tank is dark so his color reflects that? i have a sand bottom and my jag really shows her color. pic when she was younger

I thought about tht but, before his/her colors was very bright like he/she was gold and a dark purple (blurple some people would say lol) so is it really tht..?

Maybe stress due to tankmates? Is He top dog or is there a few fights in the tank?

A few fights here n there but no other fih mess with him i always looked at him as the alpha... but like i said if i was to put something new in the tank his colors come right out... in fact he is showing color now just added a pair of convicts and he is now showing his a** so to say lol

Try changing the substrate color to a more natural looking one. Even if you continue to add fish, the jag will also relax and revert to a darker shade because of its adaptation to the dark substrate.
