I have an electric blue johanni that was holding. I don't know if she is still holding. I do not see any of the other fish picking on her, but her fins appear to be slightly closed. When I put food into the tank it seems that rather than trying to eat(which I know is normal if she was still holding) she sticks her mouth up out of the water as though she were taking a breath which of course I doubt. She's not swimming around much, and lately has been staying near the top of the tank. All the other fish are doing their normal thing. Anybody have any ideas?????????? Thanks in advance for any help

Welcome to MFK. How long has the fish been holding? Is it the first time she is holding? I have found that immature females sometimes hold for up to a week and then swallow the eggs or new fry. Whether it is because of being harrased by the other fish or not, I am not too sure. What I like to do is catch my females and put them into breeding nets which I hang off the sides of my tanks. I find this works extremely well.
Try and isolate the fish into a breeding net and then put a little food into it. If she is still carrying she will not eat the food. If she isn't she will devour it. Good luck.
:nilly: :naughty: :headbang2  :woot:  :clap
