Hello, I have a 7 inch male flowerhorn living with a 3.5 inch midevil female in a 65 gallon tank, the couple gets along great, she has layed eggs twice in the last month, both times the couple seemed to be guarding the eggs fiercely, but the eggs always turned white a day or two later, wondering if the male is infertile or maybe they just need some more time

There's always a chance of being infertile in flowerhorns, less in red dragons but it can still happen. A new male might need more tries to get it right though. I would say keep trying, if still no fry after few more times then just separate them, no point in stressing them.

Agreed. Ik my male had to try 4x before he finally got it right in the end. Granted once he finally got it right he was an amazing father. Lol he was honestly a better parent then the mother was.

Okay so I'll give him abit more time then and see how it works out
Also don't be surprised if the female turns out to be infertile or even possibly both of em. With hybrids it's always a mixed bag of fertile and infertile offspring. The easiest way to test fertility is to use a proven breeder as this will help to eliminate the guess work.

Granted I'd still give this pair a few more tries before jumping the gun. Allot of times it tends to be one fish or the other that isn't doing their job properly yet. My male for instance wouldn't go and fertilize the eggs for the first few times. Or like with my angelfish I had, where the male would constantly eat the eggs for the first few spawns.
