I noticed some odd light patches on him the other day, that I don't think were there before. I moved him to a larger tank on Sunday, but I noticed the patches before that. The old tank was having an ammonia issue, but the new tank is much better - not 0, but on its way down. Here are the best pics I could get.

If you want I can post pics of my common doing the same thing :-) It's perfectly normal for them to lighten up like that. Mine does it without fail every time I turn his tank lights on.

nope.. just stress... it happens to sailfin plecos.. their color change when they are uncomfortable.... usually either too much fish activity or they are trying to sleep and other fish are bothering them..

not sickness tho..
