So I am going to buy a ray from a pet store and I am going to quarantine him first (wild caught I believe). I don't have any spare tanks so I was thinking of using a big rubber maid tub from walmart reinforced with duck tape. I have read in threads people doing this for sick rays. Would this be ok for quarantine? I will run two filters with established biologics. The tub has been rinsed thoroughly. Any reason to not do this?

Thanks guys
Tom

I can't see any problem with it providing it is big enough and you establish it properly prior to putting the ray in it.

However I have always found quarantining in tanks much easier...I find it much easier to monitor fish for diseases/parasites when I can get a clear/overall view of the fish when its in a tank, rather than just a birds eye view of the fish.

Now would it be ok if I moved my healthy P. sp peru into it and kept the new ray in the glass tank that the peru was in? It would be alot easier to monitor him. I don't want to mix the two until I have taken the proper precautions and monitored him a bit.
I will be getting the ray for no charge so I don't want to pass him up

You haven't got a buddy that will lend you a spare tank for a while? How big is the ray?

I'm putting myself in your shoes at the moment...and I hate having to swap fish back and forth...especially rays...

I wouldn't put the new ray in your main tank. Yes, see if you can borrow a tank from someone. Or use the tub if nothing else will work.
