Is my redtail catfish acting strange?

hes being really active , he used to only sit under my sponge filter. Its been 3 weeks when i bought him . he already grew quite alot.

btw this is after i did a large water change. and he just had a big meal
 
I think they are predominantly nocturnal and usually not quite active in the day light but once in while they may swim around as though exercising. What's also unusual they usually rest after big meals. If there are other fish in the tank and they are fine/usual, I'd not worry about it. If it keeps repeating after a water change, then I'd reconsider - something may be up with your WCs.
