a few weeks ago i started to observe behavior between two of my silver aro's that i thought to be possibly some type of breeding behavior. swimming tightly together, grazing against eachother, aggresion towards the smaller of the two(which is the one i believe to be female). now that the aggression part of it has stopped, the smaller aro has developed a rediculous sized gut, leading me to ponder about her being pregnant. can anybody tell me if my silver aro is pregnant?

arowanas dont really get pregnant since the female will drop eggs and the male will fertilize em. sooooo maybe the bloated one is the female? just a guess, could be something else, bloat, etc.

i would say yes, but what would i know if she starts popping those things out you should move the other fishes, they might go for the eggs. also the male will take the eggs in his mouth and take care of um so if he gets picked on so will the eggs, good luck i really hope those are eggs

thanks guys, now i guess i was wrong but i was under the impression that arowana give birth to live. what is actually the case??? does the male hold the eggs in his mouth until the fry actually form and can swim?? how long is the incubation period and what do i do when and if this happens???? thanku

he female will drop the eggs, IF the male fertilizes them he will pick them up and keep them in his mouth i think.

She could be in the breeding mode with or without eggs.. my female stopped eating and the next thing i knew the eggs were scattered across the bottom of the tank/ i only wish that i had the male to quickly fertilize them and pick them up in his mouth to carry them to developement..so watch the male and whether he is eating etc.
