I recently purchased a tank off of CL and after bringing it home and filling it up to test it out I notice something peculiar, it looked like air pockets along the seams of the tank. I'll attach pictures.

Could someone with more experience tell me if this is normal or if I bought a bad tank?

Furthermore I was told the tank was fairly new (a of couple of months old), however during cleaning and closely inspecting the tank I noticed a small sticker neatly hidden that said "Built by M.C. Dec 2005", did the guy lie?

My tank has that, and it's had it ever since I bought it this past February. If you don't find any wetness on the outside, then it's holding a seal. It's possible they only bought it recently, but the tank was sitting in the store or warehouse. Also, if it was made in 2005, it's still relatively new! I just bought a tank, that was built in 1990. I had to re-seal it, but other than that, it's my favorite tank.

Thanks for the quick feedback.

Phew... yeah I was thinking maybe it's been sitting in a warehouse for a while or something, but felt I should ask just in case since I wouldn't really know. So far the tank holds really well, just trying to solve a small uneven water level issue which i posted in diy section. It's so small it's almost not noticeable, but apparently some people do think it may pose a problem... so trying to solve it.

one of my tanks had a look like that, its actually how the bottom black molding is put on...they inject the black pieces with silicon then squish it onto the glass...what you see is silicon.

Im about 90% sure since my tank had the same sticker (except the date was alot older)

I was taking it apart to use the glass for another project and thats how all the black molding was held on.

lol shouldn't be anything to be scared of. even if the tank was 30 years old, if it held water its perfectly fine...

i got a 50 gal that hasen't needed a reseal for over 15 years when it was built.
