I got a teacup. About two days ago. Its looks fine l. Eating well on both frozen and pellet food. I noticed this morning that he is having trouble covering itself with sand. It tries but doesn't actually kick up the sand. I know the sand I have is good for rays as its very soft like beach sand when its wet and the ray has done it before.

We need a lot of info to help. Tank size, water parameters, tank mates, diet, and pics. I assume your teacup ray is a retic? They can be very hard to get to eat and often die! Did you read the stickies for rays?

also what do you mean its having troubles covering it? is it just doing the sand cover motion but not digging down? if so maybe he doesnt really want to be covered just giving a half assed attempt at it this i have seen before. but if he is flipping out and still not accomplishing anything then you might have an issue.

but you say it looks fine, eating fine, and the only abnormal thing is not getting sand on him when he does the sand flip?

Tank is a standard 75 grow out. All the parameters were ok last time I checked. It is a retic. He's eating brine shrimp and bloodworms. And sometimes the nls the festae doesn't eat. Its tankmate is a 3" festae.

Yeah I guess he was half assing it cause he just did it.

Try feeding him chopped earthworms, chopped tilapia fillet, and market shrimp. Those will help him gain weight. Most go after the worms!
