Is Myxocyprinus asiaticus a catfish?

i don't think it is but I can't help thinking it looks like one at this pic, even though it misses the barbles and everything :S

Hi,

as much as I know Myxocyprinus asiaticus exactly belongs to Cypriniformes Catostomidae = "suckers".

According to current scientific literature it is assigned to Catostomidae.

e.g.:

"...of the Chinese sucker Myxocyprinus asiaticus (Cypriniformes Catostomidae)..."

...but in many (german) hobby-publications it is misleadingly called a Cyprinid probably because of a confusion of Cypriniformes and Cyprinids...

Is this photo an asiaticus? Do they change dramatically when larger? Shape and colour are different from all the small ones I have seen.

I would not say so...

..I think they are still very interesting and it´s just a matter of individual taste, but objectively they really differ in appearance, that´s for sure.....
