long story short the glass top smashed from my knifes fighting over food. and my ray seems to be going bananas, i vacuumed out like 30% of the white sand out, i even shut off all the tights and with a led flash light try to see the small left over peaces. thought it was all gone the other day. but today another spaz. also it happens when i feed him and then i can see like a little glass on him but idk what to do. i dnt want to keep stressing him.

..yes i no but how ? i dnt wanna stress him. can any one recommend a easy way to remove sand without taking out to much water ? i have a 1inch hose that u use for water changes that i was using but it drains the tank like a mutha. also dnt wanna suck it up in the fx5 or the 405. thnx

Get a rubber garbage can (new one) ans siphon the sand into it. Let the sand settle and bucket the aquarium water back into the tank. That's what i've used when I removed the sand from my tanks. Not as stressful on the ray as trying to scoop it out.

thnx. and whats the best way to add new sand back ? or i might just go with tile

For the first week after taking the sand out cut back on your feeding as you will have taken out a lot of bacteria. people often forget this and end up with a bit of a mini cycle happening.

You can also use a smaller diameter hose to siphon the sand out. When I changed sands, I added the new sand a little at a time. Even though you will rinse the new sand well, the tank will still be somewhat cloudy.

Anything will be a little stress bit less than him or her getting all cut up.
