I have a nearby pond and canals located near me which are full of gambusia AKA mosquitofish. I was just wondering if it was ok to use them as feeders for gars or other predatory fish. I know that I will have to to through the quarantine process to treat them for parasites and such. So, if given that I quarantine the feeders, would it be safe to feed them to my fish?

provided you made sure they are parasite free (or as much as is practically possible), yes, they should be ok to feed. these fishes are growing in the wild and therefore would generally be much healthier than goldfish and other feeders raised in high densities in captivity--

Thank you for the quick and great response. The gambusia would be quarantined for atleast a month or more to ensure parasitic free feeders. :D Thanks again.

thats what i've been doing XD... catching *mosquito fish* and quarantine them... until feeding time is here! :P

I've been doing the same for some time now with no problems. They have to be better than "feeders" from the store.
