Is One Enough?

depends on what the rest of your stock is and im not really sure what you're asking, are you asking if one bushynose will clean all the algae? because regardless you're gonna have to feed it on the side and still scrub your tank from time to time

Planning on having just 8 roseline sharks and a pair of blockhead cichlids. So you're saying it doesn't really matter how many I have, I still have to scrub off algae then?

Some plecos will eat algae, some won't, especially after they get a taste of what you're feeding the other fish. Not to mention they need their own veggies. It's better to just scrub the algae. And it's honestly not that hard.

So it would just be better if I didn't have a pleco then? I got it for a purpose and not for looks, why spend for the extra treatment?

Adding a pleco is never a good idea, all it does is add to the bio-load.

If you are having problems with algae, I recommend testing your nitrAtes, they are likely very high. Reduce feeding to reduce the amount of waste/food for the algae.

I have a bushynose albino 4 inches that keeps my 90 gallon clean by hinself he is in there with a pair a large L-114's which are carnivore and will not touch algae. Also have some redhooks and clown loaches. They do a great job on algae.

Tere is not fish that rid you of tank maintenance. Now as far as the glass goes I have never scrub mine. But regardless you will still need to feed the pleco.

i dissagree that adding a pleco is a bad idea. adding a single bn to your tank wiil for sure keep the algae in check, i have seveal in my tank and i never ever scrub my tank. however, if algae is a major problem, just adding a pleco wont fix that either. and yes, a bn will need supplemental food.

Here is why it's a bad idea:

Any pleco makes more waste than most other fish.
Algae problems are a sign of an underlying problem, most likely high nitrAtes. Adding to the bioload will just compound the problem, by adding more nitrAtes.

Change your water, clean out the filter sponge/pad in dirty tank water, banging it against the side of the bucket/brick wall and vacuum your gravel.
