i have a little 70gal grow out tank in my room that has a 6'' senegal and delhezi bichir and a random raphael cat.

i just want to know if there's any big cons to using play sand? i remember reading somewhere online (forgot where) saying it clumps up and creates pockets that lead to bad chemical and odor build up. is this true or am i mistaken?

aside from that, if play sand is safe to use, how much would be adequate for my 70? would an inch of sand be way too much?

I have used it before. It was okay, just have to rinse it A LOT before you use it in your tanks. It also takes a little while longer to settle down than the usual aquarium sand.

My fish survived with it. So my assumption is that it is safe

Home depot has a playsand that is a natural beach sand I used it in my 100 gal. You have to rinse it but it totally safe.

I have it in three of my tanks and have for a while now, the only con is washing it so much befit you put it in the tank, but aside from that it's been perfect for me.
