I have easy access to getting rainbow trout and I was wondering if that would be a good food for piranha. Thanks again to everybody that helps me out with this question.

you ctching wild ones or prepaird. Either way if you are doing the catching I wuld soak the meat in salt water and freze it befor feeding just to be sure it is safe and free of any paricites. As for prepaird (market) rince it and feed if its frozen thaw it of corse. But other than what I have said make sure they arnt protected if you are catching them. But you shuld be fine feeding it to them what ever they don't eat remove from the tank or your filtrs and fish will pay the price as the fish begins to decay I recomend some kind of device to hold the meat weather it be a piece of fishing line or a clip that you pick up at lfs fer this exact use this will aid you in keeping most of the un eaten food at your conveinance to be removed. Hope this helps you. Sorry for the run ons and misspelling.

when im feeding shrimp or feeders alike live or dead, i have a safety pin attached to a steal leader attched to fishing line tied to the tank, i stick the pin the the fish or shrimp and drop it in, the piranhas tear away, and i pull it out the next morning with minimal cleaning.

That sounds like work. I just try and feed meats before a water change day and anything thats too horribly big I just pick out with my hand a few hours later.

I know my p's really went nuts when I gave them a trout heart. I would of shared but it was a pretty little fish. I wouldnt worry about stocking a freezer full of trout bits unless your not into feeding a lot of different things.

I thought trout was a minnow, and minnows and goldfish stunt growth?

The steal leader trick definetely does work if you're feeding larger chunks of fish. I know a few guys in here them.

i fed my fish rainbow i caught on a fishing trip. they liked it and ate it quickly. i have now spent over $100 on medicine because of the blood born infection and fungus that it caused. i have thrown out my trout pieces as i am 100% sure that the infection came from them.

maybe if i froze it for 30 days in the deep freeze i would try it again but not until they heal up from the latest problems.

i thought they just werent the healthiest thing to feed them as they are lacking a lot of nutrients, and that it would just slow growth.

just from what i heard and read you wana stay away from feeding p's oily fish such as salmon and this would also go for trout as well. stick to tilapia and catfish because they are "white" fish and of course the shrimp chunks but what i also read is you may wanna soak these in kent zoe for 30 min and then refreeze .. this with help with vitamins .
