Im having tank issues. I had an outbreak of what looked like cotton mouth. It was due to a fire eel which i didn't isolate. The outbreak wiped out all my clown loaches. I also used meds which didn't help the cls. Right now i have 3 ntts and an aro, which is still small.

The meds used caused the ntts to get cloudy eyes. A poster pointed out this usually happens when the pathogens which cause things like cotton mouth die off. Clean water and salt helped them recover. A few days ago the cloudy eyes came back in the ntts, not badly, but still there. Today they have white patches on their bodies. They fed last night.
Apart from the patches they're normal.
I tested the water which is stable and showing the same readings as when i always test it. I do a 40% wc weekly.
Im feeding all fish masivour which can be a messy affair. Especially as i have no cls to clean up. If there are full pellets left i scoop them out. There is always a bit of food i can't get out properly.
Im going to wc when i get home and im thinking doseing my tank again might be nessacery. Im just wondering if the left over food which i cant get out is going into the sand and causing the pathogens. Or if the sand is protecting them when i dose my tank.

I don't reckon sand is your issue.

I reckon you didn't treat the diseases properly the first time round. Just remember, just because you can't see it doesn't mean it's not there anymore. How long did you medicate the tank after the cotton mouth were gone?

Medicating or not medicating a tank is the owner's choice, but if one does decide to medicate the tank then one needs to medicate it properly to ensure all the pathogens/microbes/parasites/whatever are dead, or else resistance can be developed and the pathogen/microbes/parasites/whatever will just come back worse, once the treatment process is over.

I must admit the tank was only fully mediated for a day or 2. When i first saw the eyes clouded badly i paniced and started to wc daily. The meds i used are for treating arowana. Its not easy to get a lot of the stuff recommended on here. It is oceans free brand. I think i will wc when i get home today and then medicate. It has been over a month since the last try.

Just to add sorry. I wasn't able to tell if the cotton mouth was gone or not. The only real indicators
Were my cls. They died with the cotton mouth initially, but then started to suffer from the meds after 12 hours. I culled a few to try to protect the ntts and the aro.
The only sign the ntts had was taty fins like in rot but really aggressive.

About a week after i started to get the meds out of the tank. 25% Wc every day then less and less until i got to the weekly stage.

Cleaned the sand properly, done 50% water change. Medicated the tank with a bottle of Oceans Free Super External Bacteria &
Fungus Away (E).
I'm not sure how long to leave it fully medicated. It doesn't say on the box or with the instructions. Any ideas?
