Hi, my male endli bite his own tail real hard, to the point that it has a noticeable tear. I could see blood in the injured part. He was behaving like a dog or cat chasing its own tail. Is this self harm behavior usual in endlis? Should I worry?

Here's a pic I took shortly afterwards (I was closing a psychoterapy session when I noticed this).

this is the first time I see a problem like this,
It may be parasite or bacterial infection over its tail, what is your water maintenance schedules?

I watch this fish every single day. His tail was OK (bare eyesight) untill this happened. I perform a 30%WC every other week. The tank is heavily planted. 13 Hybrid Tilapias were introduced, he ate three of them, as well as 30 livebearers (not feeder fish, from display tanks) of which less than ten remain.

My water parameters are quite stable, although this is yet a new tank (three months running). pH is at 7.5, Ammonia and Nitrites both 0, Nitrates stay below 20ppm (Seachem, Tetra, and API Test Kits).

I'll keep watching his injure. I'm willing to take him to the vet if necessary.

try adding salt every water chance, might help with the injuries and possible ich,
the tails will recover its self rapidly, my congi lost almost all its tail before, and she regrow it all back within 2 weeks.

mine lostan eye, both fins his spine folds and half tail to a convict but he was fine and their a tank ull be ok

Id do at least 30% wc a week not every two, hope he heals for you.
