isnt the water pressure at the bulkhead only as strong as the pump that returns the water from your sump ?

Your bulkhead should have a type of mesh covering anyways to stop inhabitants going for a helter skelter ride down to the sump....To answer your question, no, its not too much...

to answer ronin_man its a bulkhead running full siphon so as long as the bulkhead is covered by water its gunna pull as much water as a full siphon 1.5inch can pull.
