I picked a baby Tiger Oscar 1.5in last night and joined him with 3 baby peacock bass. He was active at the fish store before i brought him home. He is acting weird not really swimming, he is tilting back and forth and letting the pressure from the filter push him around. Only thing i notice is at the fish store the temp was under 80 F and my tank is at 85-88 F. You guys know what is wrong with him?

Hard to say, oscars get depressed you know.

I have mine in a hospital tank and he looks miserable. could be that he's just adjusting.

also, Oscars sometimes play dead.

you should check your water parameters, just to be sure.

also see if he's not being beaten up by the other fish

Oscars act weird every time you move them. They become lethargic, and sometimes lay down on the bottom of the tank.

However, you water's temperature seems too high to me. I don't know about cichla, so that temp might be good for them, but I'm pretty sure it's detrimental to Oscars.

Thanks for the feedback..

I am thinking the same he is just adjusting. My cichlas acted the same and finally getting use to their tank. I checked the water it was fine, but i will check again. He's not getting beat up by the other guys. The other guys are curious.

I saw him a few times laying down on the bottom of the tank while I was observing him. I will lower the temp.

Should I be concern or just weigh it out a little longer and see if he gets adjusted? your thoughts?

oscars are pretty smart and very sensitive to physical changes in their environment, he is probably just sulking and will probably snap out of it within a few days

Oscar's are drama queens. He'll snap out of it soon.
I've heard stories of the decor outside their tank being messed with causing O's to run and hide.

Our's gets dramatic with every single water change. He'll hide in the corner underneath the output for one of our filters for a day or two till he realizes nothing else is gonna come in and suck up his water :)
