About 2 weeks ago, I picked up some guppies, and a female green sword-tail. I put them in the hospital tank, and kept a close eye on them, till last night. I gave them the clear bill of health, and put them in a bag, and floated them in my established tank. I turned all the lights off, and released them after letting the temperature stabilize. When I turned on the light this morning, a couple of the guppies were at the top, and have continued to stay there. I quickly plugged in a extra air pump, thinking the plants weren't giving enough oxygen off to support the new fish, and the guppies seem to be better, but I am just wondering if lack of oxygen would cause this?

I check each fish daily, and there are no signs of illness. No spots, trouble swimming, fungus, tail rot, or gasping for air. All the fish that were residents are all fine, including my clown loach. I figured he would be the first to show sings, and nothing.

Anyone have any advice for me? I don't want to add any chemicals, because I have a VERY pregnant sword-tail, and guppy.

Thanks in advance!

PH differential causes that more than anything. Even one full PH point is a lot for some fish. Guppies are probably sensitive to it.

The water in the hospital tank was from the tank already set up. Ph difference is 0 (tested water condition before I moved the fish). I moved some fry over to the hospital tank, and they didn't have any problems. I thought they would die if there was any slight difference?

The only one now that is up at the top, is the VERY pregnant one, of coarse, and the littlest female. She is half the size of the others. Maybe the swordtails are scaring her.

As for the nitrites, if there was a difference, it was so little that the colors were identical.

I guess I will just have to wait this one out. As long as I don't lose the babies, my loaches, and my pleco, I will be fine. All the others can be replaced easy. My loaches have been with me since about 1 in (1 year ago), to now. I guess I picked out a good pair. I have 1 male, and 1 female, that are inseparable. I would hate to loose these. These are by far my favorite freshwater fish.
