My arowana seems to be hanging out around the bottom of the tank and laying there sometimes. He doesn't look the slightest bit sick from what i can tell. He doesn't really seem to like the Nutrafin Max predator sticks i have been feeding (he spits them out a lot) but he has been eating them. My water conditions are prefect for him as well. Hes only about 8" long i got him on Saturday and is currently in a 55g tank alone until he gets bigger. My heater is kinda old and wont hold an accurate temp it varies between 75 to about 86 degrees but i am trying my best to keep it at about 80 until i can get a new heater. could the change in water temp cause him to lay and swim around the bottom or could it be something else. This is my first arowana and i really like him so please give me some info or tell me if I am just being paranoid. Thanks a lot!!!

it sounds like stress

what kind is he and is he turning more of a olive greenish color on his back and sides?

i take that back now that i really look at him his back is pretty dark but not really a green color

He may not have a few days, I once had a silver that turned dark and sunk to the bottom and died the next day, generally this is due to bad water either too much amonia or too many nitrites. try doing a water change and check the paremeters again

well there is a tiny amount of old food on the bottom but with my filtration amount and tank size that shouldn't matter i wouldn't think and he really only seems to get black when he is stressed like when i walk past the tank er something

its a clear case of stress.
you must be more patient. my aro. was fine and started eating right when she got in the tank, but as we all know, not all are the same. i wouldnt do anything that would stress it out. just leave it alone and allow it to comfort it self.
