Hiya all,

I'm in the planning/buying stages of my new tank back ground and wanted to install to overflow-like boxes into the background to hide the heater and filter intake.
However I was thinking of using sheets of Evergreen plastic (http://www.evergreenscalemodels.com/Sheets.htm) to build up the box; as I've got loads of it lying around and I am use to using it for making scale RC ships.
But how safe is styrene plastic in the fish tank?

The other option is to use perspex (something else lying around great amounts) but it's a right :swear: to work with.

Many thanks,
Stu :)

Perspex is definitely fish safe as many filters use it (for the housing and/or other parts). I don't know about styrene, I do know that it isn't the strongest stuff in the world and i also know that styrofoam is made of a form of styrene and it is fish safe.

My guess that it would be fish safe. I certainly wouldn't want to build a tank out of it (for strength reasons) or build and ozone reactor out of it (for chemical breakdown reasons) but for general porposes, it should be fine
