I am using an arcadia under water uv tanning lamp to tan my super red, I noticed a while back that a giant red tail gourami started to develop white cyst type lumps, i put this down to the tanning light & rehomed the fish
now i have noticed that one of my geophagus has developed a similar looking thing on one of his gill plates

has anyone else used tanning lights that have effected other fish in your aquarium & what was the affected fishes symptoms?

I haven't got myself a tanning light yet but when I do I will be positioning it on the front side of the aquarium so that the rays do not get 'burnt' by having the light directly above them. I'm not actually sure whether the tanning light will damage the rays in anyway but better to be safe than sorry.

Not proven, but I would say it wouldn't hurt the rays. Arcadia lights are meant to replicate UV from the sun right? If that is the case, it shouldn't really harm them, but might benefit their colour. The only way I see this harming them would be the light causing too much stress on the fish. But either way, for rays I guess it wouldn't matter as you have the light on the side of the glass anyways, no point tanning the dorsal side of the aro.

i have had one of these in my tank for about 2 weeks now and the only diffrence i can see is my peacock bass arnt as green when its on everyone else seems fine.
ill let you know if anything changes but so far so good.
