I wanted to give my now 2ft+ Silver Arowana a new home for the longest time.. he was in a 55 gal for almost two years. I live in an apartment on the top floor, so a big tank is out for now. My friend, however, has a house all to himself. He also happened to have this big old bathtub... we hatched a plan and this was the result:
We bought some pond liner, a Magnum 350 canister, and 300 watt heater. We had everything else, so this whole project cost less than $200. We put the liner in the tub and tossed the gravel in. Then we positioned the liner the way we wanted it and filled it up. I used the existing holes in the tub to run the tubes and in-take/out-take A frame was built out of old 2x4's. Then we built a lip around that frame out of some old shelves. We have some big pieces of glass to cover it right now, but the condensation makes it hard to see the fish. We are going to build a screen cage on top to keep him from jumping out and get rid of the glass, also gonna get some plywood and case the whole thing so you can't see the tub. The water is clean, 75 degrees and my Arowana loves me. Check this out:
