Is the Aquarium light fixture and light bulb two different wattage ?

I was looking to see how many watts the light uses on my 75G. The plastic light fixture shows 40 watts and the light bulb shows 34 watts.
Does that mean the total watts is 74 watts ?

If I am understanding you correctly the fixture is rated 40 watts? and your bulb is rated 34watts. So if your running 1 bulb rated at 34 watts your only using 34 watts
