that is debatable, i belive that it depends on the induvidual fish, rather than the speices of fish, some are crazy aggresive, some are extremly skitish and hide in corners, a black p can not be kept with any tank mates, though larger ones have been known to ignore small tetras, which have sometimes been kept with them, but any other p- of ethier, pygo, or serra genus is a big no, as well for any other type of fish. with giant snakeheads- well no for you becuase your in the US where they are illegal, and i won't get into the extremly crappy disscusion about those 2 fish, though i belive it is in the snakehead forum if i am not mistaken.

As most people will tend to agree, piranhas (by nature) are nervous, skittish fish for the most part. Maybe if defending a territory or starving, would a piranha be considered "aggressive"
A piranha will probably never have anything on the cichlid that attacks people through the glass, or kills anything else in the tank.
Even their cousin, the Pacu, is widely more aggressive - they are much more confident and assertive.

XR is right, it largely depends on the individual fish a lot of the time. But in general (overall) black piranhas are certainly very aggressive.

Unfortunately I tend to disagree with Santoury to almost a complete extent. Although I agree piranhas can be skittish: they will attack through the glass, they will kill other tank mates (more so than cichlids) and they have one more thing over cichlids …. Teeth ….
And you clearly have not ever kept a pacu, because they are extremely skittish and dart at the first sign on major movement. Hence why pacu have a reputation for being true tank busters: not for being super aggressive, but super strong and twitchy, which is a combination for broken glass.

I think that black piranhas are certainly up there with the other ‘top most aggressive fish’, however few would crown them the ‘ultimate king of aggression’. Although it is debatable if any one fish is indeed the most aggressive. Don’t get a rhom based on people saying they are very aggressive though, piranhas can only be enjoyed when you like their other factors in addition.

very well put

I don't think any piranha would be the "most aggressive" fish in the world...Snake heads,,Great Whites,,Baracuda,,Those are all fish that I would say are naturally more aggressive or atleast just as aggressive.

Isn't the most aggressive piranha the one that is flopping around on the floor?:D

No the most agressive one is the one in your bathtub:D

seriously now..I would not say that Rhoms are overly agressive. Of course they kill whatever is in there that is smaller ( perhaps excepting plecos, I've had luck with plecos ), but, as serras, they are not even shoal fish so they don't work in shoals.

imo, any wolf ( for instance and there are others ) is far more agressive and far more deadlier than any Piranha ( even pygos, and even pygos in shoals )

my 2 cents, anyway
