If we use the definition quoted below than I think their is little doubt. Only doubt would be the long period of time. But they are definitely man made. Koi would fit this definition perfectly.

"We can define 'domesticated animals' as "animals that have been genetically altered as a direct result of their involvement with us" We are talking about animals where man has had control over breeding over a long period of time, so much so that
the animals are significantly changed in behaviour and/or appearance."

I believe that all cichlids can become domestacated. it all depends on the amount of time you spend training them.

I dont know about that but FH, Red Texas, Rose Queens and Blood Parrots were manmade hybrids and they do not have any wild-type forms. They were simply born in the captivity unlike most animals we domesticated.

Let me clear up a couple things before this goes on, lol.

Trained does NOT equal domestic. You can train a lion but its still a wild animal.

Hybrid is not domestic. An animal could be a hybrid because of domestication, but they are not one in the same, and vice versa.

In some ways FH could be considered domestic, but it has to be of a specific strain or carry consistent traits that would be hard to breed out, like the kok of a flowerhorn after a few generations. A first generation red Texas for example is not domestic. Maybe tamed, but just because it was born in your tank doesn't make it "domestic"

Other fish can easily be considered domestic. Fancy guppies, swordtails, platies, mollies, angelfish, and possibly oscars could be considered domestic for any of the reasons mentioned and more.

Domestication is a tricky subject, but fun to discuss!
