Is the # of people viewing a thread correct?? I don't think so.

It used to seem accurate but lately not so much. For example, I was just in my Festae thread and it said there are 12 viewing. But when I clicked on it, there were only four names and no guests. And it's not the first time this has happened.

Also, when I first create a thread, the moment I click 'submit new thread', there's always myself and one guest instantaneously viewing the thread which is impossible.

Why would it be rigged to make it look like more people are viewing the thread than there actually are? I know this is trivial but I'm curious.

Maybe a thread Mod could chime in with an answer? Maybe they want us to think we are more interesting than we are, (sounds like something my wife would do to make me feel better about something).

guests

It could be guests, but on many boards members can select an option to view as a "ghost" or invisible. Many may chose this because they do not want to appear so pathetic (being on a website 5 hours a day).

I think the viewer counter just lags wickedly.

are you talking about thread views or the "Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread" that you find on the bottom of the page?

I would think it is a mix of the refresh rate not being all that fast and a lot of members being in invisible mode.

.

Invisible mode? Is that different from just not signing in?

Btw, I'm on for hours a day at work because there's only so much other internet content out there.

Here's an example:

My little Oscar (6 Viewing)
kevinfleming21

And in the thread at the bottom:
Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 3 (2 members and 1 guests)

It says six are viewing on the outside of the thread and three are actually viewing. I know this is the lamest thread I've made but it was just on my mind so I posted it.
