after watching the tarpon for a while i have noticed two acting strange? One of them turned white and one of them turned black, they can't be breeding or can they??

Hot fish girl! lol ;) But for real, those look nice. Does not look to be Plat to me. More silver than the others, but not plat as far as I can see.

i call dibs on baby tarpons!!! : D other than that, i dont think that is plat.... cuz it woud be a lot whiter if its plat..... and from my experience, tarpon turns dark n light all the time

i just aquired bunch of these lately. 14 mega and 3 indos. I noticed before they settled, via transport in bags and when first went in tank, they where more white and pale. After settling, the fish had a dark hue on the topside and fins darkened. 12 of the megas died due to bacterial infections. (I knew some would, that's why I bought so many.) What I noticed which has relavance to your question... the ones that died, the fins would clamp, tail drooped and become wobbley, and as well the coloration would pale.

I think the color has to do with their overall well being/stress levels. Darker, the better. Have seen healthy adult fish, and they turn almost black topside, like carbon chrome. Beauties.

there are 40 fish in the tank including 5 tarpon,4 look normal,1 is way whiter, pictures do not do it justice. The fish looks as healthy as any other fish in the tank so i do not believe it is well/being or stress.

I don't think it's a platinum tarpon. The back's still got the green colouration on it. I can't tell you why one's going paler and another's going darker, but it might be some sort of heirarchy thing.

I wish I could tell you that they were breeding, but that's highly unlikely unfortunately. Tarpon require saltwater to breed (both Atlantic and Indo-pacific species), and the Indo-pacific tarpon might be the dwarf of the family, but I still believe that they're going to have to be quite large (closer to 2 feet) before beginning to breed.

Still, they're great, mild-mannered fish that learn to hand-feed readily. Enjoy them.

nice looking fish!
