Has anyone figured out how to make a quiet wet / dry? I've only had one in the past and it was very loud. Having a fire eel again I would like to be able to completely seal of the top of the aquarium but I've become spoiled by how quiet canisters are. If it's possible I would like to go ahead and start making one.

Here is a pic of the DIY wet / dry that I built (29 gallon). It was very loud, although I did have a Pondmaster 2400gph pump so maybe that is part of the reason. I used Durso stand pipes so that part was not very loud since the cover closed it off. It was the water entering into the wet / dry.

Edit: Forgot to put that I sold this tank so I will be starting from scratch.

For wet dry, if you can use filter socks, that will help quiet the splashing. As far as the water trickling through the media, try a drip plate with more holes that are smaller. You may have to make it.
The loudest component to my filter is the pump. I have a QuietOne6000 and it makes a slight humming noise, but it isnt distracting, barely hear it wit the doors closed on the stand.
Also, try and make the drain pipes as straight as possible. 90's and bends sometimes cause the water to gurgle from all the changes in direction.
