As the title says, I do not know how much chlorine my tap water has. I feed it directly to the tank when doing water changes and typically put more than what is suggested on the bottle (typically 1.5 times), to be on the safe side.

Is there a risk of putting too much of it? I do not want to put too little.

Thanks for the input.

At 1.5 times the recommended dose, you are fine. There are some hobbyists who dose twice the recommended dosage and they have seen no ill effects. Beyond twice the dosage, I can't comment, but I would imagine you would start to see some trouble at 2.5-3 times the dosage.

This quote is directly from the Seachem Rep on this subject.

"The recommended dose of Prime (1 ml per 10 gallons) is capable of removing up to 3 ppm of chloramine or up 4 ppm of chlorine. I suspect that the recommended dose will suffice. 3x the dose is also acceptable although may be a bit wasteful. As a general rule it is usually not harmful to slightly overdose dechlorinators as they are not very strong reducing agents. An extreme overdose could lead to problems as it could bind oxygen depending on the situation (this holds true with any dechlorinator)."

I've accidentally dumped whole bottles in before :swear: and my fish where fine.. would I make a habit of it? no.. but I normally dose about 2x the recommended dose of aquasafe and never had a negative side effect I'm aware of. I like to do this particularly around now in the spring when everything has thawed and lots of rain ect at the water treatment plant. or anytime I think they might do extra chems in the water. or when we where on a well any pesticides/herbicides ect in the groundwater might be there.
