Lap? not black but is dark. Ive seen a dark grey with green on top

pbb gets pretty dark, but it depends on the fish itself. Most Nigerian/Guinean laps are a green color. Melanistic bichirs are always black, but they're pretty hard to find.

I had a melanistic delhezi that was totally black under regular lighting. You could barely see its pattern with a flash picture.

If the patterns are still showing that means it's not melanistics. The only sene, del and polli I saw before that are melanistic have no patterns and even the belly are black.

The only bichir that get black is a fully grown ornate bichir. Some delhezi and weeksii get dark too, to almost black. I have a dark weeksii and delhezi are darker than my other weeksi and delhezi which is more gray with greenish head. My dark weeksi and delhezi's patterns are also hard to see as it's blending well with the dark base color. The only light part is the belly.

Here is my dark weeksii. It's darker in personal. The flash just made it look light. Sorry for the messy glass.

Some specimens of Guinea Lapradei are dark, some are slate gray or really dark green.

I've seen some dark brown wild caught Endli and dark weeksi before. Expect to pay a hefty price if you find a melanistic bichir.
