ust finished cleaning my tank.. very tired.. :) took me 3 hours to get it done.. :chillpill: i covered all four parts of my tank, bottom, back and two sides with black cartolina.. that's the only one i could afford right now.. paint will have to be for later.. now back to the point of this thread.. many lfs here recommend scrubbing the tank in a vertical manner.. meaning scrubbing up and down.. they say that it is the only way for scrubbing the tank in a horizontal manner or in a mixed manner will not be good.. i asked the lfs owner where i bought my jar why but offered no explaination.. and if he did offer an explaination, it was not really convincing or i could have forgotten about it already.. everytime i clean my tank i am always reminded of what he said and nevertheless follow his advice.. the last words i would want to hear from him is an "i told you so".. and also everytime i clean my tank i am always reminded to post this question but always forget the moment i rest my hands on the keyboard.. so before you answer my question, congratulate me first on finally remembering to post my 3 month old question.. so here is my question.. is there any logic in it? i mean why only in a vertical manner? why not in different directions in order to fully clean tank? does your lfs also recommend that regiment? or maybe it is just our lfs here making stories.. or maybe, he wants me to be the next karate kid.. u know the wax on, wax off thing..:ROFL::ROFL:

Congrats on finally remembering to ask! I can't say I've ever heard of cleaning in a vertical only manner. Is your tank acrylic or glass? I've never had an acrylic tank, but I know that they are more susceptible to scratching so that maybe it. As for a glass tank, that would be a new one for me.

are you double posting now? You shouldn't have a problem with cleaning the glass no matter what way you do it. I personally use a Mag Float and perform circular pattern. Just make sure you clean off the glass well and it will be fine.

dr_sudz, i double posted this thread.. a fellow mfk suggested to move this thread into this forum.. the problem is, i do not know how to transfer the thread so i just double posted..Ü

trippingpara, i also have a glass tank.. and i have never seen an acrylic glass.. is it made of fiberglass or something?Ü

no its made out of acrylic :grinno:

I use a metal scourer and just wipe anyway I want. There is no logic, as far as Im concerned, to clean in a vertical manner. He was probably messing around with you and you took it seriously.

same hear mag and circle... i also use a aqua mop for the back some times and thats done in what ever direction is more comfortable for me

As long as the tank is glass like mine I'm with the guy who say use you mag float and go in circles. I just clean whatever way I feel gets the glass the cleanest
