Just wondering if there's any real size difference between rio mags and gorillus, since I know rio mag males can get up to 2 feet, but I can't find anything on the maximum size of gorillus blue or black umbees.
Also what exactly are gorillus blue umbees? are they a line bred type thing like ultimate blues, just bred from the gorillus blacks umbeeking found? or are they a different locality

I'm curious to know about the size as well. I believe the gorillas are a totally different catch location, but that exact where abouts were unknown or kept hidden.

Rapps figured it out. He would sell them as "Guatape" umbrifierus.

Color variations in any cichlid are just that, colors that help the fish cope with predators and related environmental conditions of a certain habitat.
It may have to do with color of substrate, or surrounding rocks, even density of plant cover all the things that allow a fish mot to be seen (especially by birds, their main predators.
Take these Chuco for example.

above is a Chuco from one river system.
Below one from another system, not that far away.

one may have lighter color substrate, which make the lighter color individual stand out less than the darker. These traits are selected over millennia by the survival of the fittest mode.
Below are shotsfullsizeoutput_2af.jpeg from the Rio Magdalena I took in Colombia a few years back, although a 2 ft umbilical may be safe from birds, even 1 ft individuals are constantly running the predator gauntlet.

Same species, different geographical collection location, different color variant. I believe that Chris UMBEEKING UMBEEKING had DNA work done that proved they were the same species. Under similar conditions, they should all grow to approx. the same size.

So technically a gorillus could also grow to 2 feet?
I mean I know they're all kronoheros umbrifera but I just thought gorillus were a smaller regional variant, since I haven't seen them as big is too mags and they do have a very different body shape

Lots of people were lining up to buy them 7 years ago, so I guess you would have to ask one of them.
