I found a new discovery today.:) I bought some feeding tongs to train my Tigrinus but my Tigrinus spit out the only piece of shrimp he ate. My bichirs were the one going frenzy over the piece of shrimp on the tongs. They would constantly follow wherever I move the tongs to.:D This was so fun and a great way to beef up some of the other bichirs that have a tough time fighting for food with the bigger bichirs. You guys should try this!:headbang2

Most saltwater fish store should have them for less than $12.

I do the same with my tig so i know he gets the food before my tinnys or bichirs but ive never needed to feed my bichirs like this,i just put the foof in and they come out for it,and now my congis are eating massivore and cichlid gold, yeeha so no need.

I have various pairs of aquatic tongs, but they instantly become useless if your other fish get to the food before you can lower it to the bichirs. All my fish recognize the tongs as a food source, even my Black Arowana.

Yep my RTG has started doing that lol

I don't use my fingers since it's really hard to reach all the way to the bottom with a piece of food. Plus I would like to save all 10 of my fingers. If you guys have a 20" bichirs you'll think twice about hand feeding.:D My bichirs will come out to eat from the floor but I just like to use the feeding tongs to make it more fun. Plus I want to make sure the smaller bichirs get their fair share of food.

Wait up.... before you go to the LFS or bigalsonline.com to buy fish tongs, check out the 99 Cent Store. I bought tongs just like in the picture above. I don't know if every 99 cent store has them, but the one in Norwalk CA on Firestone Ave. has them.
